This winter our school system was hyper sensitive after a poorly-predicted snowstorm last January stranded thousands of people at schools, work, and on the roads overnight. And so after a total of six 2-hour delayed start days and a full snow day without ever seeing a single snowflake fall from the Birmingham sky, a big snowmaker was predicted and school was once again cancelled. We stocked up on supplies and sat at home with our snow gear watching it pour rain all the live long day. Poured rain. And so finally that night after eyes were dried, teeth were brushed, and we were tucking the girls into bed, one of them opened the shutters to take one last hopeful look and saw it beginning to snow. Poor things. I kept them home from school the next day and let them play in our little dusting of snow until it was gone.
